What to Expect During a Kitchen or Bathroom Renovation: Step by Step
Most of the anxiety around renovating a kitchen or bathroom comes from not knowing what to expect. Here is exactly how the process works, stage by stage, so there are no surprises.
1. Free Consultation & Site Visit
It starts with a visit to your home (or a video call, if that suits you better). We look at the space, listen to what you want to achieve, and flag anything — plumbing runs, structural walls, access issues — that could affect the project.
This stage is about understanding your brief properly before anyone talks about numbers. There is no pressure and no obligation to proceed.
2. Design & Fixed-Price Quote
Once we understand the scope, we put together detailed plans, help you choose materials and fittings, and produce a fully itemised, fixed-price quote.
This is the point where you should know exactly what is included, what it costs, and roughly how long it will take. A good quote leaves no grey areas — if something is not itemised, ask before you sign anything.
After you approve the quote, expect around 1–2 weeks before the build starts on site — this covers finalising selections and ordering cabinetry, worktops, tiles, and any bespoke items so everything is ready when work begins. If the project involves a full redesign or demolition of the existing layout — new stud walls for a concealed-cistern toilet, or rebuilding old walls that are out of level — this preparation phase can extend to around 3 weeks, since the design needs to be finalised before materials can be ordered accurately.
3. The Build
This is the longest stage and the one most people worry about. In practice, a well-run renovation should feel boring in a good way: the same team turns up each day, the site is left clean and safe every evening, and you get regular updates on progress.
A single point of contact matters here — you should never be chasing three different tradespeople to find out what stage the job is at.
4. Handover & Guarantee
Before the job is signed off, walk through every detail with your contractor — grouting lines, door alignment, silicone finishes, the lot. Anything that is not right should be fixed before final payment, not after.
A workmanship guarantee in writing (we offer 3 years) means that if something goes wrong after you move back in, it is not your problem to solve alone.
